If you have trouble registering then email support @ iforpowell.com and I can force things though.

The system is not that good but I prefer to spend my time working on IpBike than trying to set up an alternative. It is at least good at keeping the spam away.

It is advisable to 'copy' before you try and post as the captcha stuff is a bit to agresive and the back buttone is not working for everyone.  You can at least then paste and have another go.

OK I have added direct uploading to Strava as they have an API I can use unfortunatly it's not the best API and I have not managed to get through the standard support to get to some one I can talk about the issues with.

I can not upload a FIT file but have to use a .tcx which is at least 10 times bigger.

I can not get the description into the acticity from what IpBike has.

I can not stop Strava doing a lookup for the altitude data which is realy dumb when you have better quality barometric based bata. Which as they manage not to do it for the high end Garmins is realy anoying

I can not set the bike automaticaly, which is dissapointing as I do all the work to autodetect it from the sensors.

You can not browse and edit the data uploaded to Strava in your mobile browser there mobile specific view is trying to get you to use there app and want let you even login...

Hopefully I will be able to set ride or run on the next update when I am adding in various features for better upload to the other sites I am looking at with APIs.

Anyone know any developer contacts at Strava let me know.

I have discovered that if you manage to click on the login button on strava from the browser on the phone you can log in and get to see the same web page as on your pc although the graph and map are not working for me. The important thing is that you can get to the edit button and go to the edit page where you can set the bike correctly, also you can paste the description into the notes area, it should be in the clipboard when you upload.

As of version 0.9.7

There is an issue uploading to Strava if you have a new line in your description. Next release will sort this out but for now no new lines in descriptions.

There looks to be the same issue with OpenFitApi.

I tried IpBike for the first time because I was really exited about the prospects of ANT+ on future phones. Two odd things happened when uploading to Strava: 1) the time was wrong. Strava says my ride was at 1:58 pm when it was actually 8:58 pm. The data stored in the IpBike app has the correct time. 2) Strava says I used the Strava iPhone app.

My phone is the Samsung Captivate running a custom Android 4.0.4 ROM (Dark Knight 5.5. CM based)

Hi Lilleford,

Strava saying iPhone app is most anoying and if I could change it I would. Strava have a rather limited published API There is no way of saying what the device is Strava make that up themselves. Presumably I am using the API in the same way as there iPhone app. I did use the api differently originaly and showed up as 'a mobile device' but the new method uses a quarter of the bandwidth so I want be going back...

I will try and investigate the time issue. I have read somthing similar on the GoldenCheeta mailing list as they also use the API. Being UK based I am too close the UTC to make these sorts of errors obvious to me.

If your phone is USB Host mode capable you may be able to use a USB ANT stick.

As far as the time goes I am in Seattle which has a UTC offset of -8hrs but it is also Daylight Savings so it is plus one hour making the actual offset -7hrs. This seems to be the difference in actual ride time and what Strava is showing.

As for ANT+ USB stick, my phone doesn't natively support USB Host Mode, but I do have a custom ROM with USB Host Mode enabled. I can't download ANT USB Service from the Play Store because my device is showing up as incompatible. I have contacted Google Play and This Is ANT about the issue. Google says its a problem with the developer and This Is ANT hasn't replied.

I was using IpBike while on a stationary trainer. When I uploaded to Strava speed and distance were missing. Heart rate and cadence were there, though. If I save the ride as a TCX file and upload that, then everything shows up, though the start time is off 7hrs (the difference between Seattle and GMT.)

Also, to clarify, when I upload to Strava directly from IpBike the start time is correct.

I think you had mentioned that the way IpBike uploads (how it registers as "iPhone App") uses less bandwidth than uploading as "Mobile". I wonder if its because it is missing this data?

Its not a huge deal for me since I run the TCX file though a program called TCX Converter to spoof a Garmin Edge 500 so I can upload the barometric altitude readings to Strava. I can also fix the start time pretty easily with this program. Just figured you'd like to know about the two issues.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will look at the time in the .TCX save code.

Strava are working on a new version of the API. I had someone contact me a few weeks back and I past on my feedback. I have not herd anything since but hopefully the new API will solve at least some of the issues I pointed out.

Hello,

First of all, thanks for the nice application.
My question is the following: I use my facebook-account to login on strava. Is there an option to upload files from ipbike to strava by using a facebook account?

thanks,
stijn

Hi stijn,

Unfortunatly with the curent version of the API I have to use to upload to Strava this is not an option I have to login using username and password there is no option to go though the Facebook style aurthorisation. I don't know if you can setup a Strava user name and password from within Strava that will be assosiated with an account linked to facebook.

Strava are meant to be working on a new API and it is meant to have better user aurthentication procedures which would be a good thing unfortunatly I don't have any details on schedual.
