Govss

Govss was devised by Philip Friere Skiba DO, MS.  The orignal paper can be seen here.

Govss support was added with version 1.7.5.  It is a running equiverent to the cycling TSS.

Setup.

You need to have the following settings filled in.

Settings -> Personal settings -> Rider Weight

Settings -> Personal settings -> Rider Height

Settings -> Personal settings -> Run lactate threshold power.  This is typically the power from something like 1 1 hour maximal effort.  As an alternative to setting it directly you can use Settings -> Personan settings -> RacePace power to enter a race distance and time.  You want something close to an hours duration ideally although you can use something a bit less and tweak the calculated number if you want.

At the 'Bike' level you need to  enable virtual power and set the VP - Calories mode to Running GOVSS

Stats.

While running the instantanious power readout comes from the basic GOVSS equasions but ussing the 5s average speed and slope rather than the 120 second moving average versions as used in the full GOVSS equasion.  120s means that the data in no way can be considered instantanious, hence using close to the curent numbers with just the 5 second filter to stope things jumping arounf too wildlly.  This is the recoded power and what all the averages and standard power stats are based off.  There is a Govss power display item which is the power using the 120 second moving averages for speed and slope.  This is what is used for the Govss stats.  There is a 30s Govss power item which is the 30s average of the Govss power that gets used to generate the Lactate Normalised power which is the equiverlent to the cycling Normalised Power.  This leads to the Lactate Intensiry factor by comparing to the run lactate threshold power setting.  This then combines with the total time to get the final GOVSS value.  These last 3 are displayed on the ride summary page in place of the running equiverlents.

variation.

There is a setting Settings -> Personal settings -> Govss use 120s which defaults to enabled to do the calculations as per the Govss paper.  If disabled then the instantanious power off the instantanious speed and slope is uesd to feed the 30s Govss power and hence the rest of the stats.  It's really there so i could experiment.  Disabling it means the stats are no longer GOVSS...
